Once a year, tens of thousands of people gather in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. In this crucible of creativity, all are welcome.
We are excited to build Black Rock City with you in 2022! When we’re together again in the Black Rock Desert, it will have been three years — time that many of us have spent imagining what we can all bring to BRC 2022 to really make a difference. Learn about our theme for the year, Burning Man 2022: Waking Dreams. Be sure to check out the 2022 art installations, and learn about this year’s dynamic new camp placement process. Returning to Black Rock City in 2022 will be an endeavor that involves each and every one of us. If you’re new to Black Rock City, please see our most recent Survival Guide. DENVER — The so-called Rainbow Family Gatherings started in Colorado 50 years ago, and this year, it’ll reportedly be back.
Attendees told Denver7 that this year’s event could bring about 80,000 people together on one of Colorado’s forest lands.
coming back to Colorado this summer
“We expect a very large turnout this year,” said James Parisho, a 12-year Rainbow Family Gathering attendee who added the get-together is all about peace.
“We call ourselves a family though we’re not related by blood. We’re related by our common goal and our common interest in prayer for world peace, because that is what the Rainbow Gathering is entirely centered around,” Parisho said.
Parisho, along with others, typically gather as part of the Rainbow Family Gathering for an entire week.
“Usually, Rainbow is portrayed as being a hippie kind of event, and it very much is, but it very much isn’t. It’s very much for everyone. It’s welcoming to all kinds of people from your hippies to your, I guess you could say, rednecks or whoever. Everyone is welcome and everyone shows up,” he said.
For many wanting to get into the nomad community, you are held back as you don’t know people and could use some help finding others to camp and caravan with. HOWA has organized caravans in the Quartzite area starting at regular intervals to accommodate anyone wanting to join.
Some of the caravans are mixed gender, some are for women only, some are for men only to make things more comfortable for those wanting to be with their gender or in a mixed group.

Have you ever tried to find out what was going on in the nomad community? Everything from small, local get-togethers, to large national events like the RTR. Since I found I was missing out on events I was sure others were as well.
There are some organizations that host events specific to their groups and they maintain their own event calendars. We want to focus on events not necessarily connected with any particular group. There are some get togethers that are private, and we aren’t here to out them. There are other get togethers that have limited space so they may be invite-only, don’t crash the party!
This is just a start for this site and hope you will let us know about the events you hear about, or are organizing.
